About Family Well Traveled

Travel More. Experience More. Travel Together.

Welcome to Family Well Traveled.

We’re Lance and Amy, and we’ve always believed that some of the best things you can give your family aren’t things at all—they’re experiences and memories that stay with you long after the trip is over.

That’s why travel has been such an important part of our family.

Over the years, we’ve explored national parks, historic sites, museums, beaches, cities, road-trip destinations and countless other places with our family. We’ve learned that traveling together isn’t always about finding the perfect destination. It’s about finding experiences that give people a reason to slow down, explore and spend time together.

And as our family has grown, our idea of family travel has grown with it.

Family Travel Is Changing

When we started Family Well Traveled, our focus was primarily on traveling with children.

But children grow up.

Our kids are now teenagers, and we’ve discovered that traveling with older children brings an entirely different set of possibilities. We’re no longer just looking for ways to keep kids entertained. We’re looking for experiences that everyone genuinely wants to share.

That has led us to think about family travel in a broader way. Some of the most meaningful trips aren’t just parents traveling with their children. They might include grandparents, adult children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, siblings, friends who become family, or several generations traveling together.

We believe travel can be one of the best ways for families to connect across generations.

That’s where we’re headed with Family Well Traveled.

Travel Across Generations

We’re interested in destinations and experiences that bring people of different ages together.

A national park that grandparents and grandchildren can explore together.

A road trip that gives an extended family time to reconnect.

A historic site that sparks conversations between generations.

A beach vacation where everyone can enjoy the destination in a different way.

A city where teenagers find something exciting while parents and grandparents discover something new.

Multigenerational travel doesn’t have to mean that everyone does everything together. Sometimes the best family trips give everyone opportunities to pursue their own interests while still sharing the experience.

Our goal is to help families find those opportunities.

What You’ll Find at Family Well Traveled

Family and generational travel remain at the heart of what we do, but our travel guides go beyond traditional family vacation advice.

You’ll find firsthand travel experiences, destination guides, practical tips and ideas covering:

  • Family Travel — Ideas and advice for making family trips more enjoyable for everyone.
  • Multigenerational Travel — Inspiration for traveling with grandparents, grandchildren and extended family.
  • Travel With Teens — Destinations and experiences that older kids and teenagers will actually enjoy.
  • National Parks & Outdoor Adventures — Places to explore, things to do and practical information for planning your visit.
  • Destinations & Road Trips — Guides to places worth visiting and ideas for making the most of your time there.
  • History, Culture & Attractions — Museums, historic sites and experiences that help you understand the places you visit.

While our perspective is shaped by family travel, many of our destination guides are useful for travelers of all ages.

We Go There, Then Tell You What We Learned

There are plenty of websites that can tell you where to go.

We want to help you figure out what it’s actually like to be there.

Our recommendations come from firsthand experience. We share what we enjoyed, what surprised us, what we’d do differently and the practical information we think you should know before you go.

How much time do you really need?

What’s worth seeing?

What’s worth skipping?

What works for different ages?

And is the experience worth your time and money?

Those are the questions we try to answer.

Meet Lance & Amy

We’re travelers, parents and lifelong explorers—not professional tour guides or travel agents.

Lance is drawn to national parks, history, mountains, road trips and the stories behind the places we visit. He enjoys digging into a destination and finding the experiences that make it memorable.

Amy loves cruises, beaches, resorts and finding ways to enjoy a destination without turning every vacation into a marathon.

Our different interests give us different perspectives on travel, and that’s part of what makes traveling together so much fun.

Why We Travel

We’ve never believed that travel has to be about checking destinations off a list.

For us, travel is about experiences.

It’s about seeing something you’ve never seen before. Learning something you didn’t know. Trying something new. Spending time together. And creating stories that your family will still be talking about years later.

As our family changes, so will the way we travel.

And that’s what we hope Family Well Traveled can become: a resource for families at every stage of life, helping them find meaningful travel experiences and make the most of the time they have together.

Whether you’re planning a trip with young children, teenagers, grandparents, adult children or several generations of your family, we hope you’ll find something here that inspires your next adventure.

Travel more. Experience more. Travel together.
