Flamingo Wildlife Habitat: An Oasis in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a frenetically paced city. Everywhere you turn on the Strip you see things to stimulate all your senses. But, in the middle of this hustle and bustle, there is an oasis where you can commune with nature. Welcome to the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat.
What is the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat?

The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is a 15-acre oasis behind the Flamingo Hilton Resort in Las Vegas.
The habitat is free to walk through. The enclosure is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm.
The wildlife habitat features Chilean Flamingos. However, you also find koi, sturgeon, catfish, waterfowl, and turtles.
Where is the Wildlife Habitat?

The Wildlife Habitat is behind the Flamingo Hilton Resort. It is outside behind the casino floor, tucked away by the resort pool.
There is no need to walk through the casino floor to see the wildlife habitat. You may walk around the building and walk along the outdoor paths.
The habitat is across from the Flamingo parking garage. It also is conveniently located on a Monorail stop.
Is it Quiet?

The habitat is relatively quiet. While walking though the trails, you still hear the music pumping at the resort pool.
We also found a lot of foot traffic through the wildlife sanctuary, so there is a general din of noise.
So, it is an oasis from the competing lights of the Strip. But there is a low hum of noise throughout.
What Kinds of Animals Will We See?

Of course, you’ll spot the signature Chilean Flamingos from which the resort is named.
Before we discovered the flamingos, we delighted in discovering many other animals.
We spotted many birds and water fowl throughout the grounds, including a number of ducks.
But, it was not simply the birds re-located into the habitat. We also discovered a number of local birds. And, I’ve heard that if you’re lucky, you can spot local hummingbirds. The habitat staff fills hummingbird feeders to attracted the avian flutterers.

We also spotted a couple of turtles sunbathing on rocks in the middle of the streams flowing throughout the grounds.
And, we watched a lot of koi and catfish swimming through the shallow and deeper pools of water throughout the site.
A Tiny Oasis

As we ambled through the paved walkways, we admired the small waterfalls and flowing water throughout the area, And we got to see a number of palm trees and other foliage throughout our walk.
We Came for Flamingos

As impressive as it was to see all of these things, we really came to see the flamingos. Thankfully, the birds patrol their own private island in the middle of the site. The island gave us many vantage points from which to view the flamingos.
Final Thoughts
I have been to Las Vegas many, many times. And, I always knew about the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat, but for some reason never made it to the site.
During a recent visit, we tried to keep spending to a minimum, so the free habitat seemed the perfect place to go.
